Books and the Cinema

This is Mr. McCullough. I have a question for our readers concerning books and cinema. Do you like when filmmakers adapt your favorite works? Why or why not? The reason I bring this up is the recent adaptation of Jane Eyre. If I had never read this book before, I probably would have enjoyed the film more than I did; however, because I had read the book I kept thinking to myself during the screening of the film how it differed from the original text. Granted, printed words and cinematic renderings are two different media and have different vocabulary and approaches, but I somehow liked the book better. This is not to say it was a bad film adaptation -- I just happened to prefer the book. Feel free to jump in!

Good question. I was just thinking when I was watching some trailers that I might be disappointed by the transfer of Water for Elephants from print to film.
