What have you been reading?

Hey Warrior Readers,
Tell us what you have been reading this winter. Mr. McCullough has recently read You Know Nothing of My Work by Douglas Coupland. This is a biography of the scholar Marshall McLuhan, who is probably best known for a couple of phrases we've all heard at one time or another: "The medium is the message" and "Global Village." McLuhan, who was a scholar of English literature, was fascinated by the changes he saw in society after the introduction of television. He predicted that mass media would be a large part of our lives in the future. McLuhan, who died in 1980, made these predictions in the 1950s and 1960s and was considered quite controversial in his day. This brief biography is a quick overview of McLuhan's life and his work.
Over the winter ice break we just had, Ms. Zentz read My Boyfriends' Dogs: the Tales of Adam and Eve and Shirley by Dandi Dailey Mackall. This young adult romance is a hilarious story as it looks at one young girl's journey to find the perfect boyfriend. Here's the story:  Bailey Daley arrives on the night of her senior prom at a St. Louis diner. It's raining cats and dogs and Bailey is all dressed up lugging three wet dogs behind her. Bailey spends the evening telling how she came to have three ex-boyfriends and yet still had all of their dogs.

Mr. M has been on a Douglas Coupland reading binge lately. He's just completed Player One and enjoyed it. Originally presented as a series of five one-hour lectures, the book tells the story of the last few hours of what may be the end of the world for the protagonists.
